Counterbalance Forklift Training

Our counterbalance forklift training course will give you the skills to operate the truck safely and efficiently, carry out a pre-use inspection, and explain the causes of truck and load instability.

Unlike many other forklift driving courses, our program is aimed at giving operators practical, real-world knowledge and experience of working safely in industrial settings.

Demand for qualified forklift operators is high across the UK and Ireland. We offer in-depth professional training to help employers and individual workers alike meet this demand, in the warehousing, manufacturing, retail, logistics and transport industries.

Forklift Training Course Content

At TCTS Group, we offer a range of forklift training options, ensuring that all trainees can learn with a pace and structure which suits their experience level. From complete novices to experienced operators, all trainees will be competent and safe operators on completion of our courses.

This information is for our counterbalance forklift course. We also offer training on Moffett Mounty operation.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.

All of our forklift courses cover the following areas:

  • Classroom session regarding the operator’s legal obligations,

  • Pre-use checks & defect reporting,

  • Lift truck controls and instruments,

  • Starting-moving-stopping the truck,

  • Steering controls & principles,

  • Operation of hydraulic controls,

  • Maneuvering in close proximity,

  • On/off ramp driving,

  • Forklift loading and unloading,

  • Stacking, Racking and unracking,

  • Lift truck stability in several environments,

  • The operators’ and Health & safety code of safe operation.

As experienced professionals in the transport, logistics and goods handling industries, our team has built our course content around the exact challenges which forklift drivers and their employers face on a daily basis.

The goal is to help trainees learn how to safely and effectively operate a forklift, in real-world industrial settings, giving them practical experience and expertise, which cannot be matched by online forklift training programs.

The four core building blocks of our training program are:

Forklift Safety

At every stage of our forklift training program, safety is at the forefront. Before trainee drivers ever set foot in a forklift, it is imperative that they fully understand the risks and hazards associated with its operation.

Even experienced forklift operators need to have their health and safety knowledge refreshed from time to time.

The purpose of our safety training is to prevent injuries occurring to forklift operators and their colleagues, as well as to avoid forklifts, stock or other equipment from being damaged during daily activities.

Our goal is to ensure that trainees fully appreciate and understand the risks involved in forklift operations, as well as how their surroundings and coworkers can present hazards during their daily work.

Forklift Driver Training

We offer training programs for learners with no experience of forklift operation, assuming no prior knowledge. We begin by covering the basic operation of a counterbalance forklift, including stopping, starting, steering, and operating the lift.

Knowledge is built gradually, so that learners are able to fully synthesise all information covered in our forklift training program, particularly with regards to health and safety during operation.

All of our training is designed to offer the maximum real-world value. Rather than simply learning what each of the forklift’s controls does, learners develop the skills necessary to be aware of their surroundings, and to choose the most appropriate actions to avoid risks.

Maneuvering a Forklift

It’s also essential for forklift drivers to be properly trained in how to maneuver and use their forklift in a variety of industrial settings. Trainees will learn essential forklift skills which are relevant to their industry.

Operatives will learn how to carry out key maneuvers to lift and move a variety of loads. We’ll also cover how to operate properly in a range of indoor and outdoor industrial environments.

Trainees will also learn how to effectively and safely load, unload and stack their forklift, as well as negotiate a range of common workplace challenges, including driving on and off ramps, as well as operating a forklift on uneven surfaces.

Pre-Use Checks and Identifying Forklift Defects

Trainees will gain a base level understanding of how the forklift works mechanically, in order to properly assess its fitness for operation. We’ll outline the common flaws, defects, and problems which can prevent a counterbalance forklift from operating safely.

Attendees will learn the essential checks which should be performed before each counterbalance operation.

Course Options & Forklift Training Cost

We offer different forklift training courses, which suit operators at different stages in their career, and with different experience levels, from complete novices to experienced forklift operators.

As employers are responsible for ensuring the health and safety of their staff, many companies choose regular refresher courses in forklift operation. This is aimed at helping operators maintain their skills and health and safety awareness, and to prevent bad habits from developing over time.

We offer the following forklift training packages:

  • Refresher (recommended every 3 years) candidate -5 hours

  • Experienced (but untrained) candidate – 20 hours

  • Complete Novice candidate – 37 hours

All of our training courses maintain the same standards. Our goal is to help trainees develop into fully competent and professional forklift operators.

Whether they’re starting from scratch, or just topping up their skills, our trainees go on to successful forklift operator roles in a range of industries, including transportation, manufacturing, warehousing, retail, agriculture, logistics and more.
